microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion can also be combined with IPL Rejuvenation and Acne treatments to help exfoliate the skin therefore speeding up the process.

The treatment itself is also very good as a "one off" treatment to help boost the blood circulation which will have a glow and brightening effect on the skin. But for acne scarring and to re-surface the texture of skin you will need a course of home-care products to use as well as a course of treatments.

WHY DO WE NEED MIRCODERMABRASION?

Our skin has a natural skin cell renewal cycle of approximately 30 days. As the skin renews, dead skin cells "build up" and thicken the Stratum Corneum (the outer most layer of skin), resulting in a dull, lifeless complexion. Microdermabrasion gently exfoliates this build up of dead skin cells, to reveal younger, smoother and softer skin.

HOW DOES MICRODERMABRASION WORK?

A fine stream of tiny particles from the applicator pen, combined with vacuum is traced over the skin, mechanically removing the dead skin cell layers. The whole face and neck are usually treated, however, particular attention is paid to the clients specific areas of concern.

HOW DOES THE TREATMENT FEEL?

Treatments are not uncomfortable, consisting of a slight tingling sensation, not unlike mild sand paper rubbing against the skin. A flushed, mild wind-burn sensation is experienced for a short time after treatment.

WHAT ARE THE IMMEDIATE RESULTS?

The skin will feel softer, appear brighter and be more uniform in colour. In addition, a special lifting technique can be carried out to plump and firm the skin.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

It is not uncommon for the skin to be red for a couple of hours after treatment. The skin may also be slightly dry and flaky for several days post treatment as the renewal occurs.

AM I SUITABLE FOR TREATMENT?

Microdermabrasion is suitable for all skin types. It is the perfect solution for enlarged pores, acne prone skin and also improves superficial pigmentation and stimulates lymphatic drainage to remove toxins.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY?

For problematic skin an initial course of six to twelve treatments at fortnightly intervals is recommended. However, as the skin is constantly renewing itself, and as microdermabrasion is a progressive treatment, most clients will return on a regular basis to keep their skin looking its best.

WHAT AFTERCARE IS NEEDED?

Daily application of sunscreen is required, but otherwise you can return immediately to normal activities.

You will need to avoid hot baths, swimming, sauna and the gym for 12 hours after treatment. All exfoliating treatments ie glycolic peels, scrubs and masks must be avoided after treatments (unless on recommendation by your practitioner) - this could damage the treated skin and slow down the recovery process by causing excessive peeling.
